"I applied for the role at Ingeus because it offered a way to help people into work that was forward-thinking and different."

"Before joining Ingeus, I worked as a physiotherapist in the occupational health department of a large NHS Trust for two years. This established my interest in the relationship between work and health.

I applied for the role at Ingeus because it offered a way to help people into work that was forward-thinking and different. I saw it as different in the sense that it addressed all aspects of health to deliver a truly holistic approach. I was also attracted by the positive and dynamic nature of the vibrant offices, which are all abuzz with activity.

I have been working in the health professional role since the start of the Pathways to Work programmes in December 2007. During this time, I have seen clients on a one-to-one basis to advise them on the management of their health conditions. This is achieved largely through education, empowerment and access to the means to improve their health, such as a gym programme. To help support people into work, I deliver a host of weekly classes such as Pilates, Relaxation, Walking Group and Circuit Classes. I also deliver workshops such as Healthy Eating and work closely with our mental health professional to deliver workshops such as Motivational Strategies and Exercise and Mental Health. Working alongside a mental health specialist has enabled me to use psychological approaches in my practice, to deliver a truly biopsychosocial service.

My clinical hands-on experience from my previous role is not lost, as Ingeus fully supports me to continue developing my practice by working in a Sports Injury Physiotherapy Clinic locally, where I access an in-service programme.

As an employer, Ingeus has been very supportive of CPD. They have also allowed me to develop services with very little red tape, which has been refreshing. By making things happen quickly, we can effect quick but lasting changes in our clients’ lives.

The Pathways to Work programme is a new and exciting initiative that is ideally suited to utilise the many skills physiotherapists hold. Most of all, I believe what will attract physios to this role is the enormous opportunity it offers to improve the lives of others by getting them active."
